REPORTS TO:  Logistics Foreman

SUPERVISES:  Logistics Associates

AUTHORITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement the 10 Fundamentals of Supervision
  • Ensure working environment is conducive to worker efficiency and safety
  • Set and monitor time goals for all tasks
  • Monitor Work Performance of staff and undertake assessments as required
  • Provide regular feedback to employees as to their performance of duties
  • Enhance and encourage skill development of staff
  • Monitor timekeeping and verify hours
  • Provide feedback to foreman and manager with respect to performance and recruiting needs
  • Supervise the day to day operations of the Receiving, Stores, and/or Material Handling function as designated by their appropriate foreman
  • Ensure storage space in production areas and warehouse are utilized effectively and efficiently
  • Set goals and objectives for required section of the department
    • Receiving and Put Away
    • Pulling and Kitting
    • Internal Material Delivery
    • Consumable Management
    • Tool Room Management
  • Ensure effective utilization of resources within your charge
  • Drive improvement in the daily operations
  • Ensure efficient use of systems such as IFS and Crib Master
  • Monitor Consumable usage and make recommendations for improvement to Logistics Foreman
  • Oversee Scrap collection and ensure procedural adherence
  • Ensure materials are stored, handled, and delivered in accordance with all governing procedures 
  • Ensure all logistics suppliers adhere to the safety requirements according to the Austal USA Safety Policy
  • Work with internal customers to identify logistical constraints and expedite resolution
  • Provide motivation, maintain high level of morale and minimize confrontation
  • Liaise with fellow supervisors to ensure effective accountability with regard to materials handling and management
  • Ensure all housekeeping standards are maintained and adhered to 
  • Maintain a safe working environment for all employees according to the Austal USA Safety Policy
  • Ensure movement of materials throughout the production facility and MMF warehouse are carried out in the most safe and efficient manner possible
  • Ensure proper tracking and tagging of all tools and equipment into and out of storerooms

QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:

  • Supervisory and Management experience required. 
  • Warehouse, Shipping/Receiving, Material Handling experience preferred.
  • A team player
  • Professional, motivated and able to work proactively to resolve issues
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
  • Proven track record of driving change through motivation, responsibility, and accountability
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Outlook
  • Must possess the ability to read and comprehend slightly complex instructions, correspondence, and/or memos. 
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with multiple levels of personnel throughout the company.
  • Must possess a High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Flexibility to work in a changing environment and handle multiple tasks
  • Ability to recognize critical situations and immediately take appropriate action and/or advise appropriate staff
  • Ability to check own work and ensure quality
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing a plus.
  • Ability to communicate with others:

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to tour all vessels and work sites.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to sit. 

Specific physical requirements include the following:

  • Must have the ability to bend, squat, stoop, crawl, and kneel.
  • Perform prolonged standing (2-3 hour intervals).
  • Ability to turn head from side to side and about the vertical axis.
  • Ability to turn body at the waist from side to side and about the vertical axis.
  • Lift/push/pull 50lbs to 75lbs on an occasional basis (0-33% of the day).
  • Lift/push/pull up to 20lbs on a frequent basis (34-66% of the day).
  • Must have the ability to climb in a safe manner (climbing includes stairs, scaffolding, ladders, and ramps).
  • Ability to work at heights above 12’ while working from ladders, scaffolding and/or manlifts.
  • Able to work at a variety of levels (ex. waist, eye, overhead).
  • Demonstrate the ability to safely and appropriately use required tools and equipment.
  • Demonstrate good balance while working on uneven surfaces and maneuvering obstacles.
  • Possess sufficient handgrip and coordination to carry and operate tools and equipment.
  • Ability to utilize personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toes shoes, goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety line, flotation gear, etc.) safely per OSHA standards.
  • Ability to withstand cold and hot temperatures.
  • Ability to enter 18” x 36” openings and work in confined spaces for prolonged periods of time (33-66% of the day).
  • Able to respond to verbal and audible sounds/commands.
  • Able to utilize adequate visual skills.
  • Ability to fully extend the arm while reaching overhead, reaching out, reaching to the side and reaching down.
  • Ability to perceive attributes of an object/material such as size, shape, temperature and texture by means of receptors in the hands and fingers.
