SUMMARY:  

As an integral member of Life Cycle Team the Reliability, Availability, Maintainability (RAM) Engineer is responsible for reliability and maintainability efforts and activities necessary to meet program requirements. The Reliability Engineer provides technical applied support to engineering programs, processes and product support. Conducts analytical evaluation of components and/or systems performance across the Life Cycle.

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborating in a team environment performs routine analytical evaluation of assigned products (e.g. new mechanical or electromechanical components, subsystems, and systems) by applying as directed basic engineering principles.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams on RAM activities and communicate with internal and external program leads, including chief engineers, system architects, program management and customer technical representatives.
  • Performing system design trade studies using life cycle cost modeling to determine design requirements and design of the product support system.
  • Reliability predictions, FMECA, maintenance task analyses, system/subsystem reliability /maintainability models, FRACAS, fault detection and isolation.
  • Derive, validate and document failure rates, modes and effects at product level.
  • Derive, validate and document maintainability/Life Cycle Cost (LCC) data for products.
  • Provide detailed failure rate analysis on systems, subsystems and components or equipment level - reliability prediction based on standard model, test data and field data.
  • Perform qualitative & quantitative analysis with focus on failure rate allocations.
  • Responsible for providing RAM/LCC system/product demonstration and validation so that the performance of the system is formally documented.
  • Conducts routine analysis to evaluate product designs, methods, materials or processes and completes required technical documentation by applying engineering principles and company standards, and generating reports, procedures, or change proposals as required.
  • Responsible for moderate complexity reliability and maintainability efforts and activities
  • Provides technical information for review with product engineering and design review teams. Consistently applies established engineering defined practices, standards, and documentation methods.
  • Contributes to supporting documentation for procedures and technical reports.
  • Work assignments may include cross-functional or project team responsibilities. Contributes and supports other teams or individuals as needed.
  • Perform reliability performance analyses including warranty guarantees; Mean Time Before Unscheduled Removal (MTBUR); Mean Time Before Failure (MTBF); Failure Modes, Effects and Critical Analysis (FMECA); and overall performance trends.
  • Perform Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) analysis
  • Apply RAM tools, standards, and analysis techniques and Logistics Product Data per GEIA-STD-0007, and Life Cycle Cost Analysis (RAM-C)
  • Evaluate and summarize large quantities of data to support technical discussions.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Program Management and Business Development to support Product Improvement and Retrofit (PI&R) initiatives with technically sounded Reliability analyses.
  • Assist in organizing and coordinating maintenance activities for technical compliance.
  • Provide engineering support to help improve availability and reduce maintenance costs..
  • Support design trade studies using life cycle cost modeling to determine design requirements and design of the product support system.

QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:

  • General
    • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Engineering, or a related specialized area or field is required from an accredited course of study (or equivalent experience); Previous Work Experience with ships is preferred.
    • Required Work Experience:
      • Typically 2-5 years of experience in RAM Analysis. Experience in Shipboard equipment and Systems is preferred.
      • Demonstrated experience with analyzing large datasets (including databases) and drawing conclusions.
      • Demonstrated successful use of statistical data analysis to make decisions.
      • Knowledge of reliability evaluations tools like MTBF, Weibull, etc.
      • Demonstrated experience in reading and interpreting technical documents, procedure manuals, schematics, data books, handbooks, statistical process control, sampling plans, etc.
      • Knowledge of RAM tools, standards, and analysis techniques

  • Computer and Software Skills:
    • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.)
    • May require capabilities using specialized software applications. Experience with DOD / Commercial RAM software tools is highly desired.

  • Language / Communications Skills: The following skills are required:
    • The ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.
    • The ability to write reports, business correspondence & procedural manuals.
    • The ability to listen to, understand, and clearly respond to complex technical questions raised by technology savvy personnel.
    • The ability to persuasively and effectively communicate to decision makers and others within the organization.

  • Mathematical Skills: The following mathematical skills are required:
    • The ability to apply mathematical logic to decision making situations.
    • Must be well versed in statistical analysis and tools implementing statistical methods.
  • Reasoning Ability: The following reasoning skills are required:
    • The ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
    • The ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
    • The ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance may be required if deemed necessary in the scope of your position responsibilities.
