REPORTS TO:  Senior Director, Business Development & Customer Relations

AUTHORITIES I RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead business development efforts for the Austal USA’s commercial ship repair business primarily focused on the Mobile repair facilities
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities in commercial sector and the US Government sector
    • Develop capture plans for emerging opportunities; assess potential for success
    • Coordinate efforts between Austal USA new construction programs and commercial opportunities to maximize use of all Mobile repair facilities
    • Develop plans to capture new business; leads capture efforts for assigned opportunities
    • Work with PDSS and other departments in developing a worldwide strategy for commercial ship repair opportunities
  • Identify strategic opportunities to grow business; develop shaping strategy and customer call plans to support capture of new business
  • Develop and maintain relationships with current and potential customers
    • Commercial operators
    • US Navy
    • MARAD
    • MSC
  • Lead efforts for the preparation of quotes for all commercial repair opportunities
  • Coordinate with Facility GM for the scheduling of the dry dock and pier space
  • As required, support business opportunity development with US Government agencies to include DoD, NOAA, MSC, and MARAD
  • Support strategic business development planning efforts.
    • Assist in the development of long range strategy and strategic path for Austal USA
    • Develop business forecasts and marketing plans to address potential market areas 
    • Actively track the commercial repair sector for opportunities and competitive market intelligence
  • Support Business Development processes, including funnel management, capture management, and proposal development 
    • Prepare gate reviews
    • Support proposal development efforts
    • Serve as the Commercial Ship Repair expert

QUALIFICATIONS I KNOWLEDGE I EXPERIENCE:

  • 10-year experience in commercial ship repair market
  • Business development experience in the DoD market
  • Possess an understanding of US Government ship repair market and regulations
  • Demonstrated experience in developing proposals in commercial ship repair market space
  • Knowledge of Navy and Military Sealift Command ship maintenance processes
  • Able to read, understand and interpret contract specifications, build specifications and other technical documents used in ship repair
  • Familiar with the different types of estimates/proposals (RFP, RFQ, ROM, etc.) and contracts (CPFF, CPAF, FPIF, etc.)

  • Desired Qualifications
    • Familiarity with Gulf Coast market opportunities and competition
    • Experience preparing winning proposals and leading capture efforts for ship repair opportunities  
    • Experience scheduling ship repair operations, to include dry dock scheduling and loading optimization

  • General Qualifications
    • Ability to lead and manage in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment
    • Proven ability to set tasks for self and others
    • Ability to listen to staff and customers and act appropriately
    • Excellent communication skills

TOOLS:  Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.  

DIRECTION EXERCISED:  Full discretionary authority to assign work

LIASES WITH:

  • All departments required to develop compliant proposal including but not limited to Legal/Contracts, Production, Sales and Marketing, Design, Warranty and Service, Projects.
  • Major Subcontractors and suppliers

ADDITIONAL GUIDELINES:

  • Position will necessitate occasional travel (~10%)
  • Overtime and weekends will be required on occasion to meet deadlines and while supporting / leading proposal efforts   
  • Position requires a confident self-starter. Ability to work in a fast-paced dynamic environment; and be adaptive to change

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance
