Austal USA is seeking a results-driven Continuous Improvement Leader to oversee cross-functional initiatives that enhance operational efficiency, quality, and performance across the organization. Leading a team of Data Analysts and Process Engineers, this role applies Lean, Six Sigma, and Total Quality Management methodologies to drive measurable improvements while fostering a culture of continuous improvement. Ideal candidates will bring strong leadership, data-driven decision-making, and change management skills—along with a proven track record in CI projects and a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (or the ability to obtain one).
REPORTS TO: Sr. Manager, Productivity Improvement
SUPERVISES: Data Analyst, Process Engineer
AUTHORITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership and Facilitation
- Organize and lead a cross functional team of Continuous Improvements leads to achieve specific (CI) initiatives
- Lead and facilitate CI projects, utilizing Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to identify and eliminate waste, reduce variability, and improve process efficiency
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to define project scope, objectives, and deliverables
- Mentor and coach team members on CI tools, techniques, and best practices
Project Management
- Plan, execute, and monitor CI projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget
- Conduct value stream mapping, root cause analysis, and other CI tools to drive process improvements
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and improvement frameworks to ensure consistency and reliability
Data Analysis and Reporting
- Collect, process, and analyze data to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for improvement
- Develop and maintain dashboards and reports to track key performance indicators (KPIs) and monitor the progress of CI initiatives
- Prepare and present findings and recommendations to senior management and stakeholders
Training and Development
- Provide training and coaching to CI Leads on methodologies, tools, and best practices
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement by engaging employees at all levels and encouraging their participation in CI activities
- Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in CI methodologies
Performance Measurement
- Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of CI initiatives, Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of CI initiatives, making adjustments as needed
- Identify and share best practices across the organization to drive continuous improvement
QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5 years’ experience in continuous improvement, process optimization, or a related role
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification required or ability to obtain within six months
- Proven experience leading and managing CI projects and teams
- Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma methodologies, and process improvement tools
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage employees at all levels
- Experience in the maritime or manufacturing industry is preferred, maritime leadership experience highly preferred
- Experience with Total Quality Management (TQM) principles preferred
- Knowledge of project management methodologies and tools preferred
- Proficiency in data analysis software and tools (e.g., Minitab, JMP) preferred
- Experience with change management and driving organizational transformation preferred
