GENERAL PURPOSE AND SCOPE:  The Director of Strategic Sourcing will be the principle owner of all supplier negotiations for Austal USA.  This commercial and industry savvy leader will develop strategies on how to manage Austal Supply Chain partners and will work directly with the VP Supply Chain to build a supplier structure that supports a scalable, partnered, and leveraged world class ship building supply base.  This Strategic Leader will lead a highly talented, assertive and results driven team in the strategic quoting and master supply/service agreements in both the direct and indirect commodities. This is a highly dynamic, strategic and impactful leadership opportunity.  Below are specific responsibilities and areas of ownership.

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop a strategic supplier portfolio:  working with the VP Supply Chain and other business leaders to develop suppliers who are important to the growth of the growth of the organization and build a strategic path that creates mutual benefit for partnership
  • Build a cost out strategy and execution commitment based upon legacy knowledge, inflation and market/commodity behavior.  Generate an annual commitment to cost out and measured ability to plan for inflation.
  • Capture Ship Program supplier needs, develop a negotiation strategy at the commodity level and drive results through competition and informed market conditions.
  • Develop a list of Master Commodities and Service needs, and generate a competitive process that leverages across platforms, that understands commodity behaviors that generates a competition to drive lower cost and reduces the effort required for purchase order execution
  • Work directly with Business Development, Programs and Engineering to ensure Supply Chain’s alignment to business needs and their alignment to the Supply Chain process that ensures a fully strategic and leveraged supply chain.
  • This person must be a highly assertive, action oriented, change agent who seamlessly works with leadership, peers and subordinates to ensure aggressive game changing results.
  • Must have a sound understanding of customer contracts to ensure full leverage of all aspects of negotiations and of how Supply Chain impacts the business financials.
  • Develop simplified process and training plans that drive data based decisions and results.  Ensures teams are trained on how to use data and tools for success.
  • Generate a plan to implement technology that brings efficiency, simplification and cost saving opportunities to Austal USA.
  • Experience with all levels of a supplier leadership and all size of businesses.
  • Generate Make/Buy opportunities that create positive game changing cost shifts
  • Supports the Business Development and proposal process for new business
  • Innovates with the Service Organization on proposal opportunities as well as driving cross direct and service related work in contracts with supplier/partners.
  • Reports directly to the VP Supply Chain
  • Act as a Compliance Champion for the organization and work to promote a culture of compliance throughout the organization.
  • Support business unit Tier 1 Compliance Lead in responsibilities as required.

QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE: 

  • 12+ years of pertinent strategic supplier management and commercial/DOD supply chain experience
  • Functional experience in finance, operations and understanding of how Supply Chain influences P&L and operational performance (preferred)
  • Bachelor Degree in related areas (Master Degree a plus)
  • CPSM certification preferred
  • Ability to enthusiastically lead others in a very fast paced and constantly changing environment
  • Excellent communications skills both verbal and written.  Metrics and data driven.
  • Demonstrated high initiative and drive to address problems and bring to sustained improvement
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret contracts specifications
  • Demonstrated Lean/Six Sigma/Productivity experience.

ADDITIONAL GUIDELINES:

  • Able to provide proof of US Person status 
  • No felony convictions of theft/deception or violent crimes within seven years from disposition date
  • No felony convictions of drug crimes within three years from disposition date
  • Willing to submit to a drug screen

TOOLS:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Microsoft Excel skills required
